5 Ways Attending Events Can Help Your Career

Professional women invest in their growth by attending events.

Rebelle Con Events

A recent study by Harvard Business School found that women who attended a Conference for Women and other business networking events were at least twice as likely to receive a promotion and three times more likely to receive a 10% pay increase in the year following the conference than women who have signed up to attend but are still waiting to attend the conference.

Are you surprised?

The feedback we commonly receive from women who attend Rebelle events are feelings of renewed energy, feelings of connectedness, and a chance to learn from people who bring different skill sets to the table.

We broke this feedback down into 5 different ways attending events can help your career whether you are a full time professional, a business owner, or an aspiring entrepreneur.

#1 - Optimism

Don’t discount the impact that optimism has on your ability to be productive, work toward your goals, and contribute to your career in a meaningful way. Being open to new experiences, new ideas, and the potential of the unknown will help you make decisions for both career and personal fulfillment.

#2 - Reset Expectations

It is so challenging to know where you are going when you don’t take time to check the map. ‘Checking the map’ for us means taking time away from your regular structure and schedule to review your direction and chart a course forward. So often we are head down, getting the work done, that we don’t have space to think about the future and decide where we go from here.

#3 - Space for new perspectives

It can be a challenge in everyday life to intentionally learn from people with perspectives different from your own. The algorithms continue to show us only what they think we are interested in. This means it is up to us to find ways to expand who we are learning from, in order to take that learning back to work with us.

#4 Combat feelings of isolation

Being a woman at work can be incredibly isolating. If you are a woman working in a male dominated field, a leader working from home, a business owner with the full weight of decisions on your shoulders, or a woman leader who has less and less peers as she climbs the ladder, we are all struggling to find connection with one another. Attending an event can be a great opportunity to find your peers to support you in your growth.

#5 - Build your support network

Having people who support you has endless benefits including taking bigger risks, identifying opportunities you can’t see on your own, and making connections that lead to favorable outcomes. It’s not easy to walk in a room of strangers, but if you are able to make a few solid connections, you are on your way to building meaningful relationships with people who can support you in the next phase of your career.
